Writing

The Notebook
Before the Camera

Before the camera, before the mat, there was the notebook. Jassim has been writing for as long as he can remember — not for an audience, not for publication, but for himself. Hundreds of unread pages. Hundreds of notebooks, lost or burned to ashes. Writing as a private conversation between him and himself. A way to find truth without the need to be seen, to impress, or to perform. No one was watching. That was the point.

Many of those pages quietly became films. Ideas that had been sitting in the dark, waiting, eventually found their way to a screen. Writing was always the first step — the place where something unnamed became something real.

Yoga changed the depth of that conversation. It taught him to sit with discomfort long enough to hear what it was actually saying. To stop editing himself before the words even arrived. To be honest on the page the way he was learning to be honest on the mat — without armour, without agenda. Filmmaking gave him the techniques: structure, arc, tension, release. But yoga gave him the courage to go to the places that technique alone cannot reach.

Now, for the first time, he is bringing that writing into the open. His personal blog is where he writes without fear of social judgment — digging into the hidden corners of himself, laughing at his own mistakes, failures, and contradictions. Sharing it is its own practice: a training in presenting his fragile, naked self to others. As an artist, it is how he communicates. Not the polished version. The real one.

He is also developing writing workshops — offered alongside his yoga retreats — designed for anyone searching for their own voice. Not writing as a technical craft, but writing as self-expression, self-discovery, and a way back to yourself. Combined with yoga and mindfulness, these workshops create a rare space where the inner and the outer, the felt and the spoken, finally get to meet.

The Blog

No brief. No agenda. Just honest writing on the things that occupy him — cinema, practice, creativity, and life. Some posts are long and searching. Others are short and sharp. All of them are real.

The Book

Jassim is currently working on his first book — a collection of short stories that is equal parts dark and funny. It explores modern life and the quiet, absurd clashes that happen within a person when different identities, cultures, and versions of the self collide. The kind of collisions most people feel but rarely say out loud. No title yet. The stories are still finding their shape.
